Conquering Bkt. Tabur East

I spent my previous weekend hiking up Bkt Tabur East, an activity organised as Raleigh KL's monthly meet.

Dragged myself out of bed at 545 am, hit the roads, drove along MRR II and arrived at Wangsa Maju LRT station (our meeting point) at 7am sharp.

It was a leisurely 2 hour plus hike up, with a few steep terrains along the way, and the part where we had to climb up the peak with assistance of a rope provided some form of 'excitement' to the hike.

Had 3 watermelons and some snacks were passed around when we reached the peak. Had a short meeting and members were updated with news and happenings since the February monthly meet.

Made our way down at 1130am, and Liza and I were the 2nd and 3rd to arrive respectively. Met up with Dennis at the mini lake at the foot of the hill, whilst waiting for the rest.

It took another 2 more hours before the rest of the group showed up, and off home we went!

I didn't pack much except for my trusted bandana and a cap which I didn't use at all during the hike. Needed a clear view to prevent myself from slipping down the hill. Alas, despite being a 'semi-pro' hiker, I forgot two crucial things.

1. I wore shorts. Fine! No big deal, but since I hate hiking in longs, leech socks are a must to prevent unnecessary scratches from the scrubs and bushes. But I forgot them! I went up Mt. K well prepared, anticipating the bushes etc, but I underestimated the shrubs at Tabur. Needless to say, my legs are well-adorned with 'patterns' as a result.

2. I forgot my mosquito repellant. Hope I don't contract Dengue, Chikunkunya, Malaria... *period*

It was in some ways, a refreshing weekend for me taking into account the stressful week that I had...

It was a certainly nice view of KL city...

Raleigh @ Youth '09

Here's what I've been up to this weekend - I dropped by the Raleigh roadshow at Youth '09.

The Raleigh crew did the usual expedition slideshow presentation along with a short talk by LY about the 4 Raleigh challenges.

We had a huge 8-man tent on display, alongside with a colourful, Hawaian beach themed 2-man (I presume) tent which some cosplay dudes took the opportunity to pose with. And of course, Liza and I grabbed the opportunity to take a picture with them!

Spoke to a February '09 venturer who sounded quite enthusiastic about her up-coming adventure which I'm sure she will enjoy tremendously.
Raleigh-ians, being the 'jakun' Raleigh-ians whereever we go, we were jumping, scrambling, screaming and running around the whole exhibition hall. And of course, the presence of bean bags do not contribute much to prevent the cause.

Res ipsa loquitor (Latin for the thing (in this case, picture) speaks for itself).

Raleigh Log

A collection of my favourite Raleigh pictures...

Dipoles: Strung across the goal-post on one end and tied to a villager's shrub on the other.

Random sunset @ Kg. Keranaan during one of the evening walks together with Alex and Louise

Mike: Very good with kids. During our 'School Duty'

Kids... Epitome of innocence

And yes, this hillarious picture Alex took of me, whilst I was attempting to stay afloat on a make shift raft consisting of 2 bamboo poles and 3 jerrycans help together with some gaffertape.
My favourite Raleigh picture so far!

Trekking. 3 days 2 night in the same stinky clothes!

Piggyback races with James

Our completed project!

A group picture at Poring Hot Springs. Way to go Alpha Premier!!!!

Tanned and Charred

Much have been said on Facebook about my post-expedition tan.

Comments range from, "You look tanned and dirty" (credits to Grandma) and "OMG, you're so dark!" to "Hmmm... not tanned enough"

So here are some before and after pictures to appease my 'detractors'.

Before

After (Delta Phase: 3 days into expedition)

Post-expedition (during the after party)

Week 1 Post-expedition (atop Mt. K)

YES, I'm tanned and charred! But the tan is fading fast... so come and meet me at the darkest phase of my life whilst you can... :P Once in a lifetime opportunity NOT to be missed... :P

For the records, some uncle at Palm Court mistook me as Philipino. WTF!
